After review some websites as requested from N7V, DP, WM-Talk, I decided to start a topic related to Ads Placement Study. Thanks for inspirate me I have to say.
As you can see, Ads serve most of the websites and blogs. It provides meat and butter to webmaster to continue expand their pages, and turn their quality traffics into revenue. That’s why I should say, deliver Ads Message to your visitors is more like dealing with Arts. The smarter you present it to your audiences, the higher reputation and revenue you can earn.
Let’s start our topic today, I will bring you some real life examples, hope you enjoy it.
Applied Ads Placement inefficiently
Irrelevant Ads delivered
Showing irrelevant Ads always result low CTR and low Conversion. There are two situations you can get wrong targeted result.
- adopt contextual ads in your website - I apologize that I still do not figure out the way to overcome it for huge advertiser like Yahoo, Google
- you picked the irrelevant ads to your page - You may need to monitor the Ads Performance by 3rd party tools in order to figure out the most effect banner to be chosen. I recommend you using OpenAds tweak on the CTR, Conversion on several campaigns to chose the one can generate highest revenue
Site Reputation Drop
Putting too many Ads in your page will create a “hard-sales” feeling to your audience and cause traffic lost on your website. You can’t earn more revenue but lost your traffic at the same time.

This is a real website grabbed from the same page (I have to apologize to the author before I continue giving my comment on the page). This webmaster wasting too many efforts by simply scatters the Ads around the page (3 contextual Ads and other affiliate links). It reduced the readers’ interest in reading the articles even its quality.
Wasting Media Space

Header of the website: attractive logo, but with the two portions of page remain BLANK

Footer of the same page: we only saw Ads and wasted media space but not content
Some webmaster just too hunger for Ads Revenue and putting all the Ads on a page without consider the layout of the page. Sometimes they don’t even realize that lots of spaces are wasted. For your information, Media Space on your page considers as every combination of your monitor’s pixel which can deliver your audience certain information, either your quality content, or Ads. As you know two important points,
- the top media space is always valuable than the bottom
- visitors love Content far more than Ads
So, you need to maximize your media space, to locate your Ads without bugging them to read your content. Furthermore leaving the portion of your page BLANK mean you are wasting your media space (unless you consider that as your page design)
Good Practices Ads Placing
Most Suitable Ads Spot For Article Type Website

If you are running a content based website or blog, you can take the picture above as your reference. The top and the right corner is the best Ad Spot for you to install your Ads Code. Your readers can enjoy your articles without bugging by your fancy Ads. And if you want to get more credit from your Ads Revenue, you can add your Ads Code in between your articles paragraph. Those in between paragraph’s Ads will increase your Ads Awareness, which is candy for your Advertisers.
P.S. for those intend to use in-text Ads, you may need to reconsider it twice. According to online readers’ respond, most of them do not like in-text Ads

It’s look like a normal link (with double underlines). When user mouse over it, Ads will pop up and block the readers from continue reading the content but Ads. Most of the online marketer admitted it bring more side effect than revenue to their site (including me). It change the web surfing behaviors (most online surfers seeks link for content, not Ads)
Ads Dessert

CandyStand
Personally, I like the games in CandyStand. They hosted the most quality flash games and all the games are free. I love the way they conduct their Ads to their audiences. They hosted the longest Ads (similar to TV commercial Ads), but always make the visitors willing to wait, and enjoy their Ads. This is because they believe that it’s worth-to-wait (even though they know it’s Ads) for the game they want to play behind the Ads. But in order to adopt this Ads delivery concept to your website, you need to host quality contents (most probably media rich trailers, games, and motion graphics), most probably not suitable for article based website.
Well, I hope you enjoy my article.
See you in the next section!
